Mint Julep
MINT JULEP
Makes 2 cocktails
Takes 5 minutes
Crushed ice (cubes are fine if you don’t have an efficient way to crush ice)
4 ounces bourbon
2 ounces mint syrup (recipe below)
1 ounce lemon juice
6-10 sprigs mint
- Gently wipe the inside and rim of two small rocks glasses or julep cups (8 ounces is preferable) with mint.
- Add crushed ice.
- Combine bourbon, simple syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Shake to combine. Pour evenly over crushed ice.
- Add 3-5 sprigs of mint to each glass.
MINT SYRUP
Makes 1¾ cups syrup*
Takes 1 hour, 10 minutes
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed mint leaves
In a large saucepan, combine water and sugar. Cook over high heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved, 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from heat and steep for an hour.
- Strain into a mason jar and store in the fridge until ready to use.
*This makes more than you’ll need for just a couple cocktails. Save and use for flavored lemonades or other concoctions. It will store well in the fridge for a month.
